Herb of 10 to 45 centimeters with leaves 2 to 3 centimeters long.

This species is closely related to B. axillaris, but it differs by presenting segments of the lower cup and glandular cells in bracteoles and leaf blades.

Bacopa monnierioides occurs in Central America, Brazil and Bolivia.
