Protium heptaphyllum is present in not flooded lands, in clay soil of Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, Suriname and Brazil - the Amazon region (Maranhão, Piauí, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Goiás).

In folk medicine, this resin oil plant gums are used for various purposes such as stimulating, antiulcer and antiinflammatory. In religious rituals, it is used as incense for having such an aromatic resin.
