Mentha pulegium
Erva perene, de cerca 15 cm de altura.
Mentha pulegium é nativa da Europa e Ásia, cultivada nas Américas e se caracteriza por seu cálice tubular. No restante do país esta espécie é conhecida por poejo.
This aromatic plant, with spontaneous growth, has been known for centuries throughout the Mediterranean and western Asia for its carminative properties, relaxing and even as emenagoga when taken in infusion. For extraction of an essential oil, it can also be used in aromatherapy.
Expectorant, flu, chronic cough, soothing to the nervous system, colds, insomnia, rheumatism, stomach acid fermentation, nausea, bronchitis and asthma. In Portugal, it is used for cooking, infusions and also for liquor manufacturing, especially in the South.
