Herb about 1 meter high, native from South America. It can be found in Ecuador, Peru, Guianas, French Guiana, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, India, Vietnam, England, Mascarene Islands and Bangladesh.

The herb is stimulating, tonic in small doses and laxative if taken in high amounts. The tea is diaphoretic and the leaves can be used as antiseptic and hemostatic. Useful to many types of bleeding. Fresh leaves are also used to skin cuts and stomach pain. An extract made of the aerial parts of the plant contains antibacterial and antifungal properties.
