It is a very common plant growing on nitrogenous soils, like weedy and uncultivated areas, such as waste places and roadsides. It has been used medicinally and as a culinary herb.

This herb has an essential oil very rich in many substances and its medicinal properties are known for its anagesic effects, antispasmodic, anticonvulsant, tonic, calming, digestive, anthelmintic and period regulating. It also has been tested to be used for malaria.

It may not be consumed crude since it is toxic in this condition.
