Shrub 1-3m tall. Hairless branches. Leaves 10-20x6-10 cm, simple, alternate, vaginado-grooved petiole, forming winged expansions; symmetrical base cordate, apex acuminate inflorescence 2-3 cm long in solitary spikes, axillary.
Piper alatipetiolatum is endemic to Brazil, occurring in the Atlantic Forest and Amazon.
