Herb of 30-100 centimeters of height, pantropical, widely spread in Brazil.

In the traditional medicine, S. dulcis has been used for diabetes in India and hypertension in Taiwan. In Brazil, it has been used for many different problems, such as hemorrhoids and wounds, while it is used for sickle-cell disease in Nigeria. In Nicaragua, it has been used for anemia, burns, and headaches.
