Batista Campos

It was named in honor of Mr Batista Campos. He was born in 1782 in Acará Village, located 101 miles away from the city of Belém by road. He is considered by historians the most influential leader of the Cabanagem Movement, that took place in streets of Belém Between 1835 and 1840.
He was also the founder of the first newspaper of the city,"O Paraense". He died in 1834 one year before the movement of Cabanagem started.
The previous name of this Square was "Sergipe".
