Mosqueiro Island
The Island is located around 70 km (43 miles) from Belém. You can get there by car, bus or by boat. The best way is to rent a car. The Island has an area of 212 Qs Km and has 17 Km of fresh water beaches. Even though It is fresh waters, its beaches have waves, somenthing not very usual . The river that surrounds the island is Pará (another name for the Amazon river) in front of the Guajará Bay. The origin of the name Mosqueiro, comes from the Tupinambas (indians) language, where the name Moqueio is a way they preparred that fish, a way they fry the fish with leaves.
For those who go by bus or car, it takes aproximantely 1 hour to get there. The population of the Island is around 50,000 people. During summertime (July), it gets too crowded, when nearly 200,000 people visit the island, so if you do not want crowded places, it best to go there in weekdays, avoiding the weekends.
For eating it is recomended that you look for the hotels that exist in the island, where the best deal is fish.
