Geographical Distribution: Amazon and Araguaia-Tocantins river basins.
Habitat: Lakes, Lagoons, creeks and calm shallow waters of rivers .
Feeding : Feeds on fruits and small fishes, crustaceans.
Characteristics : It has a big head, the body is Grey, the belly is yellowish and tail in Orange color. It occurs in littoral creeks, over sandy bottoms covered with dead leaves. It also inhabits lakes and rivers, but seems to prefer rivers with very slight currents. It prefers a muddy bottom covered with leaves and decaying wood, the latter providing for hiding places during the day. It may reach 110 pounds and measures up to 4.2 Feet in lenght.
