Lauro Sodre
its Located in Floriano Peixoto Square, just yards from the Water reservoir. Former Governor Magalhaes Barata decided to built it to honor the former Governor Lauro Sodre who was in charge of the State of Pará 2 times, 1891 to 1897 and from 1917 to 1921.
The Monument conects these 2 leaderships of the State, who were the most influential leaders of their time. The Monument was opened in June, 10th 1959.
One interesting fact is that when the Monument was just about to be finished, the governor Magalhaes Barata died 12 days before the opening cerimony
11 million cruzeiros (around 5 million US dollars) was the total cost. The Project of the monument was designed by architect Francisco de Paula Lemos Bolonha from Belém and the sculptures created by artist Bruno Giorgi from São Paulo.
