Souza Franco

Located in the Neighbohood Umarizal, it honors Mr Bernardo de Souza Franco, born in Belém in june 28th 1805.
He was a lawyer, Counselor of the State and member of the Brazilian Geographical Institute, he was also a Judge in the State of Pernambuco.
He was the President of the Province of Pará in 1839 and Alagoas in 1844 and Rio de Janeiro in 1864.
He created the customs tax and ordered that the English currency to be accepted in Brazil because he believed this would increase the Brazilian Trade and industry.
He was the Ministry of Finance and a Senator in 1855.
He wrote a paper about Banking Business in 1848.
