Crrosing 3 neighborhoods, São Braz, Nazaré and Batista Campos, it was named in honor of the State Supreme Court Judge Gentil Augusto de Morais Bittencourt. He was also Vice-Governor of the State between 1891 and 1892.

Its previous name was Constitution.
