Located in the Neighborhood da Cidade Velha, it was named in honor of Mr Joaquim José de Assis. He was a journalist. He founded the most inlfuential newspaper, named "A Provincia do Pará in 1876 , its last edition was published in 2001. It was the 3rd oldest Newspaper in Brazil. Its previous name was Espirito Santo Street.
