The cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum, synonym C. verum) is a small tree with approximately 10 meters tall.
Cinnamomum verum is native to Ceylon. Possibly the spice trade in the world started with this species.
In folk medicine, it is indicated that the use of cinnamon in the amount of a teaspoon every day, significantly reduces blood sugar and improves cholesterol levels (LDL and triglycerides). The cinnamon tea also benefit diabetics. No one knows for sure if the consumption of cinnamon is effective in combating high blood pressure. There are three ongoing studies monitoring the effect on blood pressure.
