Pelargonium graveolens is an aromatic herb, which grows straight and has simple leaves. It has many kinds of flowers, which can be white, pink, purple and purple-pink.

It is original of South Africa, but disseminated all over America. According to popular beliefs, some distilled solutions - known as "gerânio" oil - can be used for aromatherapy and therapeutic massages. The essential oil is an ingredient in a natural treatment for haemorrhoid.

As a condiment, the leaves and flowers are often used in cakes, sweets, jams, ice creams, salads and teas. Besides, it is used as flavouring for tobacco and pipes, being one of the flavours known as "Lakeland".
