Meirmaid Fountain

<< Voltar

The history of this fountain is not well known. Some historians relate it to the time Antonio Lemos was the Mayor of the City, a time when a lot of construction was done in the city. It was the rubber time from 1840 to 1909, also called the Belle Epoque. Some Authors report that the construction was done in 1904 and approved by the city Council in November 15th 1905. The structure was imported from Europe but it is not certain from What Country. Since Belem imported a lot of things from England and Scotland it is possible that it came from one of these Countries.
