Scientific Name : Prochilodus lineatus.

Geographical Distribution :  Amazon and Araguaia-Tocantins River Basin. It also can be found in the States of Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Parana.

Habitat: Bottom of Lakes and river shores.

Feeding : It feeds on Plants and organic materials deposits on the botton of rivers.

Characteristics     

It has a maximum length of about 50-60 cm and weight up to 12 pounds. Its body is tall and compressed, greenish-gray (lighter in the belly), with yellowish green fins. Its mouth is circular and projects towards the front; it has two layers of small teeth.

This fish prefers deep waters . it sucks and eats organic mud, for which its mouth is especially adapted. This incidentally makes it difficult to fish it with a bait. It migrates in large banks, looking for warm waters during the spring in order to lay its eggs.

É um peixe com escamas ásperas, em número de 47 a 50 sobre a linha lateral, com 9 fileiras acima e 7 abaixo dela. Sua coloração é cinza-prateada, com faixas transversais escuras e inconspícuas no dorso. Possui nadadeiras caudal, dorsal e anal com varias manchas escuras e claras, alternadamente. Tem boca terminal, com lábios espessos e protráteis em forma de ventosa, munido de pequeninos dentes fracamente inseridos. Possui um espinho curto e dirigido à frente, na origem da nadadeira dorsal. Pode alcançar 30cm de comprimento e atingir 450 gramas.
