Dom Pedro II

It was named to honor the Emperor of Brazil, Pedro II. It is considered the oldest Square in the City. Its construction began in 1762 and finished in 1772. Before, this square had the name of Constitution when the State joined the Portuguese Constitution in 1821. Later it had its named changed to Independence because in 1823 the State joined the Independence of Brazil.
