Caetano Brandão Friar
He was born in Portugal in September 11th, 1740. He was ordained Priest when he was 19 years old and Bishop for the Province of Pará in 1782.
He was Known as the Apostle of the Sick. He traveled for the Amazon Region taking care of those that were sick and needed assistance. He was the founder of the Hospital named "Jesus for the Sick and Poor", that opened its door in july 25th 1787. LAter this Hospital changed its name of Holy House and the School our Our Lady Amparo, which turned to take care of the indigenous women of the Province fo Pará.
The hospital Halted its services in 1900 but theres is no record about the reason. In 1957 it was donated to Minstry of War. It became an national heritage in 1964 but this would'nt aovi being demolished in 1978. Near the Hospital was the royal hospital, that later tirned into the army Headquaters and today is the called the "house of 11 windows" Beside the Fort of Nativity.
Caetano Brandao left Belém in August 1789 and went to Portugal to be in charge of the Archidioscese of Braga. He died in december 15th 1805.He was 65.
