Tapereba/Cajá

The fruit is found in the whole Amazon Region. It can also be found in the northeast of Brazil, where its popular name is Cajá. In Belém, you can find it at the Ver-o-Peso market. The skin is soft and can be peeled off easily with teeth. The pulp is yellow and the taste is a little sweet. Studies conducted by Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA) have found that it is a good source of vitamin C. Its pulp has commercial value and is sold in supermarkets. It is good for ice cream, juices and liquors mixed with vodka, like the famous Caipirinha.

Caipirinha Recipe:

  • 50 gr. of taperebá pulp
  • 2 Fl oz of vodka
  • Sugar or sweetener
