Crossing the Neighborhood Cidade Velha, it was named in honor of Joaquim Marques Lisboa. He was born in Dec 13th, 1807 in Rio Grande (RS) e died in Rio de Janeiro March 20th. 1897. He is the Patron of the Brazilian Navy.Dec 13th, his birthday is the Sailor's day. He came to this city to fight against the rebels of the Cabanagem Movement. He was the comander of the Navy in the war against Paraguay.
The Name Tamandaré was chosen by the Emperor D.Pedro II.
This Avenue was named Arsenal previously and later in June 1951 the Mayor Lopo de Castro send the house of Representatives a proposition to changed its name to Tamandaré .
